Approach al-Fatihah as a conversation

A hadith describes al-Fatihah as divided between Allah and His servant. When the servant praises the Lord of the worlds, Allah acknowledges that praise; when His mercy and sovereignty are affirmed, He acknowledges the servant’s extolling and glorification.

The declaration of worship and seeking help belongs between Allah and His servant; the request for guidance is for the servant, who is promised what is asked. Recite with awareness that the words are addressed to Allah and that this response is described in revelation—not as something you hear audibly.
