Listen to the Qur’an you recite

Tadabbur means pondering the Qur’an with the intention to receive its guidance and live by it. Recitation and memorization are valuable, and should be accompanied by understanding, reflection and action. Study a reliable explanation before drawing conclusions from an unfamiliar passage.

Remember that these are Allah’s words addressed to His creation. Ask what a command requires of you, what a warning calls you to leave, what a promise invites you to hope for, and what a story teaches. Recall descriptions and meanings without inventing an image of Allah.

In voluntary prayer, established examples include repeating an ayah, asking for mercy at verses of mercy, seeking protection at warnings and glorifying Allah at verses of glorification. Schools have qualifications concerning such responses within prayer; follow your school. Outside prayer, turn reflection into a concrete act of obedience.
