BEFORE PRAYER
Let the call slow you down
Prepare for the masjid with careful wudu, clean and suitable clothing, and consideration for others: avoid offensive smells and walk calmly, even when the iqamah has begun. Use the supplications for leaving home and going to the masjid; enter with the right foot and leave with the left. Learn the mosque-greeting prayer and its timing according to your school.
Arrive early when possible, value the congregation and first row, avoid disturbing worshippers and wait with remembrance. The walk and the waiting can prepare the heart for meeting Allah rather than merely fill the minutes before prayer.
Respond to the adhan by repeating its phrases, with La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah in response to the calls to prayer and success. This acknowledges that obedience is only possible with Allah’s help. Send blessings on the Prophet ﷺ, ask Allah to grant him al-Wasilah and the promised praiseworthy station, and make duʿa between adhan and iqamah. The Detailed Guide contains the words and sequence.
