Guard the heart between prayers

What happens outside prayer affects the heart within it. Protect your eyes from forbidden sights, your tongue from backbiting, slander, obscenity and hurtful speech, and your dealings and provision from unlawful means. Good company helps sustain these choices.

Sin is described as leaving a mark on the heart; repentance, seeking forgiveness and stopping the wrongdoing polish it again. Avoid treating repeated failure as proof that return is impossible. Lowering the gaze and restraining speech are practical forms of preparing for humble worship.

Examine one recurring habit. Remove its trigger, ask forgiveness and replace it with something beneficial. If another person was harmed, address their rights as well. Continue praying while working to change.
