Treat the prayer as an appointment

Salah is the second pillar of Islam and a central act of accountability in the Hereafter. Its obligation was given during the Night Journey and Ascension. Remembering its place in the religion helps it become the framework of the day rather than something squeezed between other commitments.

We pray to obey Allah, fulfill the purpose of worship, remember Him, draw near to Him, express dependence, show gratitude and converse with Him. Prayer renews commitment, purifies the soul, seeks forgiveness, guards against wrongdoing and prepares us for the Hereafter.

Before starting, recall whose invitation you are answering. Make practical space for the prayer and ask Allah to accept it. Protecting its form and bringing the heart to it are both acts of honoring this appointment.
