Opening praise and repentance

The openings gather several themes: Allah’s perfection, praise, blessed name, majesty and exclusive right to worship; separation from sin and cleansing; abundant good and blessed praise; and glorification morning and evening.

Longer transmitted openings include asking the Lord of Jibril, Mikail and Israfil—the Creator and Knower of the unseen—to guide you to truth where people differ. Another dedicates prayer, sacrifice, life and death to Allah, admits wrongdoing, seeks forgiveness, asks for the best character and asks protection from bad character.

A night-prayer opening praises Allah as the Light and Sustainer of the heavens and earth, affirms His promise, revelation, meeting, Paradise, Hell, the Hour and messengers as true, then declares submission, faith, trust and repentance and asks forgiveness for past and later, private and public wrongs.

Further openings glorify the Lord of the worlds; another reported sequence repeats takbir, praise, glorification, testimony and seeking forgiveness, followed by requests for forgiveness, guidance, provision, wellbeing and protection at the Resurrection.
