Words of the prayer

اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ

Allāhu akbar

Allah is greater.

سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ

Subḥānaka Allāhumma wa biḥamdika, wa tabārakasmuka, wa taʿālā jadduka, wa lā ilāha ghayruk.

Glory and praise are Yours, O Allah. Blessed is Your name and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Aʿūdhu billāhi min ash-shayṭān ir-rajīm.

I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected Satan.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.

In Allah’s name, the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi Rabbil-ʿālamīn.

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of all worlds,

الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Ar-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm.

the Most Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Māliki yawmid-dīn.

Master of the Day of Judgment.

إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ

Iyyāka naʿbudu wa iyyāka nastaʿīn.

You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.

اهْدِنَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Ihdinaṣ-ṣirāṭal-mustaqīm.

Guide us on the straight path:

صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمْتَ عَلَيْهِمْ غَيْرِ الْمَغْضُوبِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا الضَّالِّينَ

Ṣirāṭal-ladhīna anʿamta ʿalayhim, ghayril-maghḍūbi ʿalayhim wa laḍ-ḍāllīn.

the path of those You have blessed, not those who have incurred anger, nor those who have gone astray.

قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ

Qul huwallāhu aḥad.

Say: He is Allah, One.

اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ

Allāhuṣ-ṣamad.

Allah, upon whom all depend.

لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ

Lam yalid wa lam yūlad.

He neither begets nor is born,

وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ

Wa lam yakul-lahu kufuwan aḥad.

and none is comparable to Him.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيمِ

Subḥāna Rabbiyal-ʿAẓīm.

Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent.

سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ

Samiʿallāhu liman ḥamidah.

Allah hears the one who praises Him.

رَبَّنَا وَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ

Rabbanā wa lakal-ḥamd.

Our Lord, to You belongs all praise.

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى

Subḥāna Rabbiyal-Aʿlā.

Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي

Rabbighfir lī.

My Lord, forgive me.

التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ

At-taḥiyyātu lillāhi waṣ-ṣalawātu waṭ-ṭayyibāt.

All greetings, prayers, and good things belong to Allah.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ

As-salāmu ʿalayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh.

Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللَّهِ الصَّالِحِينَ

As-salāmu ʿalaynā wa ʿalā ʿibādillāhiṣ-ṣāliḥīn.

Peace be upon us and Allah’s righteous servants.

أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

Ashhadu al-lā ilāha illallāh, wa ashhadu anna Muḥammadan ʿabduhu wa rasūluh.

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdum-Majīd.

O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad, kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm, innaka Ḥamīdum-Majīd.

O Allah, grant blessing to Muhammad and the family of Muhammad as You granted blessing to Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ʿadhāban-nār.

Our Lord, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ

As-salāmu ʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāh.

Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِينُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَنُؤْمِنُ بِكَ وَنَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ وَنُثْنِي عَلَيْكَ وَلَا نَكْفُرُكَ وَنَخْلَعُ وَنَتْرُكُ مَنْ يَكْفُرُكَ

Allāhumma innā nastaʿīnuka wa nastaghfiruka, wa nuʾminu bika wa natawakkalu ʿalayka, wa nuthnī ʿalayka wa lā nakfuruka, wa nakhlaʿu wa natruku man yakfuruk.

O Allah, we seek Your help and forgiveness. We believe in You, trust in You and praise You. We do not deny You, and we turn away from those who reject You.

اللَّهُمَّ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَلَكَ نُصَلِّي وَنَسْجُدُ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسْعَى وَنَحْفِدُ نَرْجُو رَحْمَتَكَ وَنَخْشَى عَذَابَكَ إِنَّ عَذَابَكَ بِالْكُفَّارِ مُلْحِقٌ

Allāhumma iyyāka naʿbudu, wa laka nuṣallī wa nasjud, wa ilayka nasʿā wa naḥfid. Narjū raḥmataka wa nakhshā ʿadhābaka; inna ʿadhābaka bil-kuffāri mulḥiq.

You alone we worship, and to You we pray and prostrate. We strive toward You, hoping for Your mercy and fearing Your punishment. Your punishment reaches those who disbelieve.

اللَّهُمَّ اهْدِنِي فِيمَنْ هَدَيْتَ، وَعَافِنِي فِيمَنْ عَافَيْتَ، وَتَوَلَّنِي فِيمَنْ تَوَلَّيْتَ، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أَعْطَيْتَ، وَقِنِي شَرَّ مَا قَضَيْتَ

Allāhumma-hdinī fīman hadayt, wa ʿāfinī fīman ʿāfayt, wa tawallanī fīman tawallayt, wa bārik lī fīmā aʿṭayt, wa qinī sharra mā qaḍayt.

O Allah, guide me with those You have guided; grant me well-being with those You have granted well-being; care for me with those You have taken into Your care; bless what You have given me; and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed.

إِنَّكَ تَقْضِي وَلَا يُقْضَى عَلَيْكَ

Innaka taqḍī wa lā yuqḍā ʿalayk.

You decree, and none decrees over You.

وَإِنَّهُ لَا يَذِلُّ مَنْ وَالَيْتَ، وَلَا يَعِزُّ مَنْ عَادَيْتَ

Wa innahu lā yadhillu man wālayt, wa lā yaʿizzu man ʿādayt.

Those You befriend are not humiliated, and those You oppose have no might.

تَبَارَكْتَ رَبَّنَا وَتَعَالَيْتَ

Tabārakta Rabbanā wa taʿālayt.

Blessed and exalted are You, our Lord.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّا نَسْتَعِينُكَ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَنُؤْمِنُ بِكَ وَنَتَوَكَّلُ عَلَيْكَ وَنَخْنَعُ لَكَ وَنَخْلَعُ وَنَتْرُكُ مَنْ يَكْفُرُكَ

Allāhumma innā nastaʿīnuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nuʾminu bika wa natawakkalu ʿalayka wa nakhnaʿu laka wa nakhlaʿu wa natruku man yakfuruk.

O Allah, we seek Your help and forgiveness, believe in You, rely on You, and humble ourselves before You. We renounce and leave those who reject You.

اللَّهُمَّ إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَلَكَ نُصَلِّي وَنَسْجُدُ وَإِلَيْكَ نَسْعَى وَنَحْفِدُ

Allāhumma iyyāka naʿbudu wa laka nuṣallī wa nasjud, wa ilayka nasʿā wa naḥfid.

You alone we worship, and to You we pray and prostrate. Toward You we strive.

نَرْجُو رَحْمَتَكَ وَنَخَافُ عَذَابَكَ الْجِدَّ

Narjū raḥmataka wa nakhāfu ʿadhābakal-jidd.

We hope for Your mercy and fear Your certain punishment;

إِنَّ عَذَابَكَ بِالْكَافِرِينَ مُلْحِقٌ

Inna ʿadhābaka bil-kāfirīna mulḥiq.

Your punishment overtakes those who disbelieve.
