TAHAJJUD
Why night prayer matters
Night prayer is a valued voluntary act of worship, distinct from the five obligatory prayers. Qiyam al-layl is worship in the night; Tahajjud is commonly used for prayer after sleeping. Its prayer time lies after ʿIsha and before Fajr, with the final part of the night especially valued.
The Qur’an praises those who leave their beds to call upon their Lord with fear and hope (32:16), and those who seek forgiveness before dawn (51:17–18). Quiet, privacy and freedom from daytime occupations can make recitation and supplication more attentive.
Night worship cultivates sincerity, gratitude, repentance, restraint and closeness to Allah. Preserve Fajr and the obligations first, then build a voluntary routine within your capacity. There is no minimum length of recitation required to make a short voluntary prayer worthwhile.
Choose one achievable change for your next night. Preserve the obligations and build consistency gradually.
