Seeking refuge and basmalah

Seeking refuge acknowledges that you need Allah’s protection from Shaytan’s distraction and misguidance. It also corrects self-reliance: you cannot secure attention and obedience through your own strength alone.

The basmalah begins in Allah’s name and recalls His mercy. Let it move the heart from relying on itself toward seeking His help. The schools differ in the basmalah’s classification and whether it is recited aloud; follow the selected method rather than adding a uniform instruction.
