Beyond the daily five

Sunnah, Witr & night prayer

Voluntary prayers add to the five obligatory prayers. They include regular sunnah prayers connected to the daily prayers, Duha after the sun has risen sufficiently, and night prayer.

Witr

Witr closes the night’s prayer with an odd number of units. It is wajib in the Hanafi school and an emphasized sunnah in the other three. Its structure and qunut are not identical across the schools.

Tarawih and other prayers

Tarawih is Ramadan night prayer. Istikharah is prayer and supplication when seeking Allah’s guidance in a decision. Eclipse and rain prayers have their own guidance. Learn each separately instead of assuming that every additional prayer uses the same pattern.
