Adhan & iqamah

The adhan announces the prayer time; the iqamah announces that the congregational prayer is about to begin. A mosque may leave a gap between them.

Both contain declarations of Allah’s greatness and oneness, testimony to the Messenger, and a call to prayer and success. Their repetitions and some details vary across schools. The Fajr adhan includes the declaration that prayer is better than sleep.
